Security and VPN

Using the Internet for business today is not an option. Even connecting to the Internet just to get e-mail exposes your company to a wide variety or risks. We have solutions to mitigate your risk and let you focus on your core business instead of worrying when or how your company's data will be violated.

Security and VPN solutions

Firewalls. The first line of defense is a good firewall. The problem is that most firewalls may have sufficient protection when they are purchased, but lack of updates and new threats can compromise them. The right solution depends upon your company and your business. The best we can say is that one size does not fit all, and the best option is to discuss your company's needs to select the right solution. Some of our solutions include Cisco®, and eSoft®.

Wireless Security. Too many times we have seen unsecured wireless in business offices. This is the equivalent of letting anyone off of the street come in and use your network at anytime of the day. Sometimes we have even found rogue access points in their offices using a network scan which may have been installed by someone in a department for their own uses who never meant to seriously breach your company's security. Your business needs business grade solutions deployed properly to ensure your wireless networking does not become a liability. Some interesting things to consider include:
MAC address authentication can be broken in less than 1 minute using today's new software.

128 Bit WEP encryption (considered the standard now) can be broken in 18 minutes using today's software.
WAR Chalking is a new threat that started around 2000 where a chalk symbol is made outside of your office identifying you have wireless and key information that can be used to get into your network. Click here for more information.

VPN Security. To avoid the cost of Frame Relay circuits or point-to-point T-1s, a popular option is to use the public Internet and to do a Virtual Private Network. It allows a very inexpensive option for your remote users or offices. The Encryption level is not the only factor that needs to be considered. 256bit is the current standard we recommend, however Spyware and Viruses can violate your security at either end even though the VPN tunnel might be secure. When we are looking at VPN solutions for your company, we take the remote PCs and offices into account also.

eMail. Virus and Spyware typically sneak in through eMail and can compromise your network and lead to downtime. The best solution for this is a quality AntiSpam and AntiVirus Gateway. This can be part of your main eMail server or run on a separate Gateway. We have a range of solutions to fit your needs that range from additive software packages, or hardened Linux gateways.
